Geographical Indication approval received for Žatecký chmel

The Hops Growers Union of the Czech Republic (Svaz Pestitelu chmele Ceske republiky) Mostecka, 2580, CZ-438 19 Zatac, Czech Republic officially received the Geographical Indication approval for their Mark Žatecký chmel from Geographical Indication Registry, Government of India at their Chennai Head Office.

The Official Certificate work was coordinated & received by Mr. S. Ravichandran from the Office of the Honorary Consulate of the Czech Republic in Chennai. The Certificate was later handed over the same day to the Czech Ambassador H.E. Mr. Milan Hovorka.

Zatecky Chmel is a hops produced from authorized vareity of hops Žatecký poloraný červeňák and grown in what is termed the Zatec hop-growing area. This comprises cadastral areas in the districts of Louny, Rakovnik, Chomutov, Kladno, Plzen-server and Rokycany.

The growing of aroma hops has a thousand-year tradition in the Czech Republic. The marking of hope which included labelling and verifying of hop origin has already begun in 16th century.
