Intense Lockdown in Tamil Nadu’s 4 Districts due to COVID-19

Following a high surge in COVID-19 cases, the Government of Tamil Nadu has announced a complete lockdown for another period of 12 days. Only few relaxations are allowed in the major affected 4 districts of Chennai, Chenglepet, Kanchipuram and Thiruvallur. This Lockdown is from 12.00am on Jun 19th to 12 midnight on Jun 30, 2020.

Petrol Pumps, Grocery Stores, Vegetable Shops and other essential shops will remain open between 6am and 2pm. Banks will be allowed to operate with 33% workforce only on Jun 29th and Jun 30th. ATMs and other Bank related transport will continue as usual. Autos, Taxi Cabs & private vehicles will be allowed only for Medical Emergency.

Hotels can operate only for takeaway services between 6am and 8pm. Amma Canteens and Community Kitchens will continue to remain open. Tea shops will not be permitted to open. Central & State Government Offices which provide essential services will be allowed to function with 33% workforce. Workers from the Containment Zones are not required to commute to the Office.

e-Passes will be issued only for medical emergencies, marriages & funerals. There will be no restrictions on Vehicles transporting essential goods. While the cargo movement will be uninterrupted, Quarantine rules for incoming passengers from other States or abroad will remain the same as described by the Government of India.

There will also be complete lockdown on Jun 21st & Jun 28th (both Sundays). Only essential Medical Services will be allowed, no shops will be allowed to open on these 2 days.
