State of Emergency in the Czech Republic is now over

A two-month long state of emergency declared in the Czech Republic over the coronavirus crisis ended at midnight on Sunday, May 17 2020. Visa Services provided by the Embassy remain suspended until further notice.

In this connection, the Embassy would like to recall that all foreign nationals can stay in the Czech Republic legally for additional 60 days after the end of the state of emergency - that is until July 16, 2020.

Foreign nationals whose Schengen visas or whose visa-free stays have run out during the state of emergency do not need to request extension from the Alien Police inspectorate. Visas will not be extended and exit orders will not be issued. Upon departure from the Czech Republic, each foreign national will be issued an “exit stamp” into the passport, which will indicate the legality of his / her stay in the Czech Republic. This stamp will include the date of exit and will indicate legality of stay to the authorities of those states through which the foreign national might transfer when homeward bound - the reason being to avoid any possible penalization.

According to the Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs the 60-day bridging period concerns also employment permits issued by Labor Office of the Czech Republic, i.e. holders of Schengen visas for the purpose of employment and employment cards can continue to work. Holders of long-term visas or residence permits who intend to continue their studies, work or other type of activity in the Czech Republic should contact the office of the Department of Asylum and Migration Policy of the Ministry of the Interior according to the place of residence.

The Embassy would also like to inform that Visa services, including scheduling of appointments for visa and residence permit applications submission, remain suspended until further notice. Consular services regarding attestations or superlegalisations remain available subject to a prior appointment at consular_delhi@mzv.cz.

Finally, let us inform you about the latest COVID-19 figures related to the Czech Republic which confirms that the country is on the right track in its fight against the virus. As of May 19, 2020, the country has 8,594 confirmed cases of COVID-19, 2,653 active cases (169 out of active cases hospitalized), 299 fatalities and 5,642 recovered persons. The Czech Republic has performed 363,963 tests.
