Weather Alert for Czech Citizens in Tamil Nadu

Aug 10, 2019

We urge Czech citizens to avoid areas throughout the states of Kerala, Karnataka, and some parts of neighboring Tamil Nadu, that are experiencing extreme rains and floods. Those already in the affected areas should exercise extreme caution. These weather incidents are also triggering landslides, power outages, road and train closures, and forcing thousands into relief shelters. Heavy rains are expected to continue for at least the next two days due to the ongoing monsoon season.

In Tamil Nadu, there is significant rainfall and reports of landslides in the Coimbatore and Nilgiris districts. State government Officials are setting up emergency responses in those areas.

Actions to Take
  • Wherever possible, avoid travel to affected areas in Kerala, Karnataka, and Tamil Nadu. Especially avoid all areas affected by landslides and flash floods.
  • Do not attempt to ford flooded areas of water flow.
  • Seek secure shelter. Be prepared to shelter in place until conditions improve.
  • Be aware of your surroundings.
  • Monitor local media for weather updates.
  • Follow directions of local authorities.
  • Have evacuation plans.
